LOLPERA is an original absurdist opera--or fauxpera--by Ellen Warkentine and Andrew Pedroza. What started as a funny song about a funny cat picture has turned into a two-year musical journey that will culminate in the world premiere of LOLPERA at The Garage Theatre in Long Beach, CA in October 2011. After a sold-out workshop in 2010, LOLPERA has evolved into an epic musical tale about the future of technology and its affects on our hearts and souls. Using only words directly from LOLcat images (a found-lyrics experiment of sorts), LOLPERA is now a dystopian clash between low-brow humor and high art. A "gesamtkunstwerk" that asks important questions about this our modern world: How do we find meaning in the meaningless? Will what we create ultimately destroy us? Can we really has cheezburger?
Call it 1984 set in a virtual litter box. Call it Brave New World with bad grammar. Just please, please, don't call it Cats.
CRITICAL ACCLAIM...ALREADY!
"...funny, and stupid, and brilliant...making for a show you should not miss, the experience itself a joyous bite, itself a meme-producing machine. The next big thing."
-Greggory Moore, Long Beach Post
"So maybe in a city where (as Harper’s writer once said) 'even the bad taste seems to be fake bad taste,' the question is not, 'What truth is hidden in LOLcats?' but instead 'What truth can we pretend is buried within?'” -Sarah Bennet, The Daily Trojan

About 2 years ago, I started working on 18 puppets for a low budget independent feature length film titled "Misfit Heights".
It's a Puppet Zombie Musical! and is amazing!
Check out the trailer. Stuff pictured there that I built are the zombie lemming and the giant glowing-red-eyed monster that grabs another puppet in the end.
Hope you dig it. When it comes out, I'll keep y'all updated.

Check out the Reviews from 'Babylon Heights' at The Garage Theater
"...Levi Gadson, Gisela Valenzuela, and Dicapria have designed an outrageously funny, ingenious set and the props to go with it. Everything is HUGE, in order to make the full-sized cast seem little by comparison. Some items are two and three times their normal dimensions: doors and doorknobs, beds, tables, lamps, phones, wine glasses, cigarettes, cigarette lighters, toilet paper rolls, dumbbells, etc. There’s also some very clever prop business, e.g. it’s necessary for the characters to move the phone receiver from one position to listen to another in order to speak. ..."
Tableau Vivant Nouveau - a show I directed and produced
Dicapria's new endeavors have led her to form a production team with partner, Michael Pukac called "The Imaginary Light Bulb Factory".
The main focus of this group thus far has been to create a series of shows called "Tableau Vivant Nouveau". This live performance envolves paintings being brought to life through originally composed music, choreography, and puppet performance.
These Tableau's have been performed in formal gallery settings, underground theater, and a puppet festival in Florida. Currently, we are searching for more performance artists, venues, and producers to collaborate on future Tableau's in the Los Angeles area.
A brand new project called Tableau Vivant Nouveau: "Art Come to Life", featured two paintings actually coming to life through a scene designed to replicate the paintngs and also featured performance artists bringing the piece to life through music, song, dance, and puppetry. The shows were a great success and got reviews from the Sarasota Herald Tribune and Creative Loafing, as well as the cover image on Senses Magazine May 2007 issue. Upcoming Film: "Misfit Heights" - a puppet zombie musical
Dicapria was one of the puppet designer/builders for the upcoming film, "Misfit Heights",-Unfettered Entertainment, being filmed this summer 2008.
Dicapria built 23 puppets for the film including a giant 4ft zombie puppet head and hands. The hands grab, twist, point, and the eyes light up, and mouth chomps. You can check out the pictures of the puppets in my portfolio.
Please stay tuned for release dates and screenings. More pictures and information can be found at http://www.misfitheights.com
